BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi are the three major German luxury brands. BMW was founded in Munich, Germany in 1916, and officially named the company BMW the following year. BMW's predecessor was an aircraft factory. It was originally famous for manufacturing streamlined bi-wing reconnaissance aircraft. In 1923, the first BMW motorcycle came out. Five years later, in 1928, BMW acquired the Eisenach automobile factory and began producing cars. After that, BMW brought many masterpieces in the history of automobile manufacturing to the market, creating BMW's outstanding reputation as an automobile manufacturer.

In 2018, the "Top 500 World Brands 2018" compiled by the World Brand Laboratory was announced, and BMW ranked 16th.
